Smoke on the Mountain 2022 is ready to #BarbecueWithAltitude!
GALAX – The Twin County Chamber of Commerce is days away from the Smoke on the Mountain 2022 event! This Friday and Saturday, July 22 + 23, marks the 17th year of the event which brings barbecue competitors from all over the United States to Downtown Galax to compete in sanctioned events.
This year the barbecue event is sanctioned by the Memphis Barbecue Network and Kansas City Barbeque Society. The steak and chicken wing contests are sanctioned by the Steak Cookoff Association. The contest is slated to be one of the largest in the past ten years with over 50 teams and 100 judges from around the country participating
MBN Teams include: Slayton’s Barbeque Company, Sweet Swine O’ Mine, Jacks Old South, Boonetown BBQ, The Great Pig in The Sky, Rescue Smokers, Ain’t it the Life BBQ, Ranucci’s Big Butt BBQ, Will Be Que BBQ Team, Blue Collar BBQ, Hanks BBQ, Parrothead Porkers of Florida, Fireside Smokers BBQ Team, Poker Porkers, 901Q, Leela Q, and King’s Cooking.
KCBS Pro Teams include: Slayton’s Barbeque Company, Sweet Swine O’ Mine, Jacks Old South, Rescue Smokers, Smoke Me Silly, Ain’t it the Life BBQ, Big Butts BBQ, Optimus Swine, Taste of Grace BBQ, Blue & Gray BBQ, Vicious Pig, Under the Radar, Bowman’s Butt & BBQ, Oinkerz BBQ , Hanks BBQ, Parrothead Porkers of Florida, Rooters-N-Tooters, Piggin’ Whiskey, Hold Your Horses BBQ, 901Q, Bad Rooster BBQ, No Name Smokers, King’s Cooking, Trailer Pork Bros., Uncle Pigs Barbecue Pit, Franks Dirty South BBQ.
KCBS Backyard Teams include: Country Boys BBQ, Dog Patch Q, Wild Blue BBQ, Que N Cue BBQ, Little E’s Que, Lem’s Meat Varnish, Swine ‘N’ Roses BBQ, Poor Boys BBQ, Drewbie-Que, Smoke & Fury, The Swine Doctors BBQ, Conviction BBQ Team, T & S BBQ, Etowah Smoke, Pinky Out BBQ, Ham Squad, Kiss My Butt BBQ, Big Al’z BBQ, No Lookin’ Cookin’, Swinely Done BBQ, RibLife, Shelby Smokers, Leela Q, Bark Ring BBQ.
(Many teams listed twice in MBN and KCBS sanctions are “dual” entry teams)
There will be 30+ Steak Competition teams competing on Friday.
Live bands will also be performing throughout the weekend. The Chamber reminds attendees that music admission is free for the second year in a row!
Friday Night at 8pm, Winston-Salem based band, Envision will kick off on the North Main Stage.
Saturday music will start at 11am with Sparta based musician Vogan Thompson performing at the People’s Choice Contest tent. At 1pm local bluegrass band, New River Line, will perform at the Grayson Street stage next to Chestnut Creek School of the Arts.
At 4pm, “The Robby Danison Band” will perform at the North Main Stage. Closing the event this year at 8pm is Johnson City, Tennessee based band, SPANK! (the ultimate 80’s party band).
The Chamber is also excited to have its 3rd Annual Cornhole Tournament in the Beer Garden area beginning at 12pm on Saturday.
Main Street and adjacent portions of Grayson and Center Street will close at 3pm on Thursday, July 21 to prepare for the event.
